Path to Free — Using Siperb Without Paying

Siperb is free by default — and that means more than most platforms. The phone works, the proxy works, transcoding works, push notifications work. You sign up, connect your PBX, and start making calls without paying anything and without sacrificing core functionality.

What paid plans add isn’t features — it’s persistence and people management.

What’s free

On the free Personal plan, you get:

  • Full access to Siperb’s secure SIP proxy — your PBX doesn’t need to be WebRTC-enabled
  • Transcoding — Siperb handles codec negotiation between WebRTC and your PBX automatically
  • Push notifications — incoming calls wake up backgrounded mobile and desktop apps
  • Provisioning — manage your SIP credentials centrally
  • All three platforms — Web, Desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux), and Mobile (iOS, Android)
  • The complete phone UI — dial pad, transfer, hold, mute, attended transfer, blind transfer, recording controls
  • SIP Trace — 7 days of call logs for troubleshooting
  • Community support

If you’re on WebSocket Registration Mode (connecting directly to a WebRTC-capable PBX), you also get:

  • Device State Subscriptions and Presence — see who’s available across your team

No credit card required. No per-call or per-minute charges from Siperb.

The one limitation of free

Your data lives on your device. Call history, recordings, and message history are stored locally — they don’t sync across devices and they don’t back up to the cloud. If you lose or replace the device, that data is gone. SIP Trace logs are retained for 7 days.

For personal use, that’s often fine. For a business, it usually isn’t.

What requires a paid plan

Business — cloud data retention and staff management

Upgrade to Business if you need either of these:

  • Cloud data retention — 6 months. Call history, recordings, and messages sync to the cloud and are retained for six months. Users don’t lose their data when they switch devices, and you have a record to refer back to. SIP Trace is also retained for 6 months.
  • Domain Users. Add and manage staff accounts centrally. As the administrator you have full visibility into each user’s connections, settings, and feature access. See Understanding Domain User Seats →

Business Pro — long-term records and AI tools

Upgrade to Business Pro if you need:

  • Extended retention — up to 5 years. Call history, recordings, messages, and SIP Trace kept for the long haul. Right for regulated environments or anywhere records matter.
  • AI transcription. Recorded calls are automatically transcribed and made searchable.
  • AI call assistants. Configure AI to handle incoming calls, answer queries, and route callers.

Can you really use Siperb for free?

Yes. Sign up, connect your PBX, and you have a fully functional softphone at no cost. The proxy works. Transcoding works. Push notifications work. You’re not on a crippled tier waiting to be upsold — the free plan is genuinely usable.

Upgrade only when you have a specific reason: you need call history to survive a device change, you need to manage staff accounts, or you need records retained for longer than 7 days.

WebSocket mode — requirements for direct PBX connection

This section applies to the Web phone and mobile apps. If you’re using the Desktop application, skip this — the Desktop app supports UDP, TCP, TLS, and WSS transports natively, so your PBX doesn’t need to meet any special WebSocket requirements.

For the Web phone and mobile apps connecting directly to your PBX in WebSocket Registration Mode, your PBX must meet these requirements:

  • WebSocket support — your PBX must accept WebSocket connections (most modern PBXs do)
  • Valid SSL certificate — a publicly valid TLS certificate is required; self-signed certificates don’t work from browsers
  • WebRTC audio — support for the Opus codec and DTLS-SRTP encryption
  • Reachable from the internet — your PBX must be accessible on the WebSocket port (usually 443 or 8089)

Asterisk 16+, FreeSWITCH, and 3CX already support all of this. If your PBX predates WebSocket support, use Proxy Registration Mode instead — Siperb’s proxy handles the translation, and it’s free.
