This guide explains what connections are, why you need them, and which type to choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Is a Connection?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A Connection is a configuration that tells Siperb:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Where your PBX is located (its address and port)<\/li>\n<li>How to authenticate with your PBX (credentials)<\/li>\n<li>Which calls should be routed through this connection (dial patterns)<\/li>\n<li>How your PBX expects to communicate with Siperb (registration, trunk, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You create connections in your Admin Control Panel under <strong>Connections<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do You Need a Connection?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you\u2019re using WebSocket mode (free):<\/strong> No. WebSocket mode connects directly from your phone to your PBX. No connection needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you\u2019re using Proxy mode (paid):<\/strong> Yes. You must create at least one connection so Siperb\u2019s proxy knows how to reach your PBX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn the difference: <a href=\"\/kb\/registration-modes\/\">Registration Modes: Which One is Right for You?<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Three Types of Connections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Choose the type that matches how your PBX is set up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Outbound Registration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Siperb registers <em>with<\/em> your PBX on behalf of your users. Your PBX sees Siperb as an extension or trunk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When to use:<\/strong> Most organisations. This is the default.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Works with:<\/strong> Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, 3CX, Avaya, Sangoma, and most SIP-compatible PBXs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What you need:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your PBX\u2019s SIP registration address (e.g., <code>pbx.example.com<\/code> or <code>203.0.113.50<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>SIP username and password for Siperb to register with<\/li>\n<li>Dial patterns that tell your PBX which calls to send to Siperb<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How it works:<\/strong> Siperb connects to your PBX and \u201cregisters\u201d like a phone extension would. Outbound Trunk<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Siperb sends calls to a static IP on your PBX. No registration \u2014 Siperb just opens a connection and starts sending SIP messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When to use:<\/strong> Carriers, ITSPs, or when your PBX can\u2019t accept inbound registrations. Also used for large deployments where you want explicit control over traffic routing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What you need:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your PBX\u2019s static IP address and port<\/li>\n<li>Optional: SIP credentials if your PBX requires authentication<\/li>\n<li>Dial patterns for routing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How it works:<\/strong> Siperb opens a TCP or UDP connection to your PBX\u2019s fixed IP and sends SIP INVITE messages directly. Inbound Registration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your PBX registers <em>with<\/em> Siperb instead of the other way round. Siperb acts like a registrar (like a PBX would normally).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When to use:<\/strong> Your PBX is behind NAT, a firewall, or can\u2019t accept inbound connections. Your PBX can reach Siperb, but Siperb can\u2019t reach your PBX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What you need:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your PBX\u2019s outbound connection capability (most PBXs have this)<\/li>\n<li>SIP credentials we provide for your PBX to register with<\/li>\n<li>Dial patterns to identify calls meant for your domain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How it works:<\/strong> Your PBX initiates a connection to <code>siperb.com<\/code> and \u201cregisters\u201d with Siperb. When a call comes in for your domain, Siperb forwards it back through that persistent connection. Elegant for distributed or remote PBXs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Full guide: <a href=\"\/kb\/article\/inbound-registration-connections\/\">Inbound Registration Connections<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dial Patterns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Every connection has one or more <strong>dial patterns<\/strong> \u2014 rules that tell Siperb which numbers should be routed through this connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><code>4[0-9]{3}<\/code> \u2014 Any extension starting with 4 (4000\u20134999). Send to this PBX.<\/li>\n<li><code>^0[0-9]{9,10}$<\/code> \u2014 UK geographic numbers. Route to your trunk.<\/li>\n<li><code>.*<\/code> \u2014 Any number. Default catch-all.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have multiple connections, Siperb tries them in order until one matches the dialled number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Multiple Connections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can create several connections. They must match the numbers you\u2019re dialling.
